Dorset Growth Hub nominated for O2 NextGen Digital Award

Digital capability support programme helped Poole based businesses to succeed online and mitigate cyber threats.

Now in its 6th year, the NextGen Digital Challenge Awards Programme identifies and honours achievements and digital endeavour from across the British Isles. Every year NextGen run an Open Call seeking innovative and inspiring examples of projects and teams who deserve wider recognition.

Dorset Growth Hub and Poole Council have been shortlisted for the Economic Development Award, which you can find out more about below.

Lucy CooperDorset Growth Hub Manager, said:

Being shortlisted for this award demonstrates the value of partnership working through the Dorset Growth Hub. We work closely with the Local Authorities to ensure we align our business support to the SME’s within the county. Through consultation with local companies, we ascertained that there was a need for assistance with their Digital Capability and worked with the Borough of Poole to provide this through advice and small grants.

The Digital Capability Project was designed, implemented and delivered by the Dorset Growth Hub and its chosen IT delivery partner. Businesses were encouraged to participate in the free service funded by Borough of Poole which involved undertaking an impartial review of the effectiveness of their website, social media activities and to check IT security aspects against cyber threats.

O2 NextGen Digital AwardsA comprehensive health check was carried out for businesses and a detailed report generated. This was delivered to each of the businesses, which included recommendations and suggestions for improvements, website/social media best practice and also cyber risk considerations.

Follow up one to one support with a digital specialist was offered to all businesses and taken by the majority of them with the remainder then having the tools to implement improvements themselves following the review.

The support received has meant businesses have been able to implement changes leading to an improved online presence and understanding of cyber risks. This, in turn, can help to drive a higher level of business enquiries, increase sales and also help mitigate cyber threats.
