With it comes complexity in investigation, developing technologies, international boundaries to overcome. Businesses need to be alive to the threats and prepared to respond if hit by a cyber attack. Policing recognises the need to work with partners to face the challenges, to raise awareness of the problem and help build a culture of security.
Hampshire Constabulary and Xiria Ltd, will describe some of the threats to businesses, the challenges investigators face, the ease with which cybercriminals are able to commit crime and some solutions available to keep your businesses safe.

Detective Sergeant Ivor Bowen is the Cyber Protect Lead and Digital Investigation and Intelligence Partnerships Officer for Hampshire Constabulary. Ivor has been a police officer for over 25 years, having come from the petro-chemical industry. Ivor is committed to raising awareness of the threats from cybercrime and working with groups and organisations to reduce vulnerability and improve cybersecurity culture. Ivor has worked with a variety of partners in industry, academia and amongst SMEs to achieve this.
Ivor has an MSc in Security Management and achieved CISMP and COMPTIA Security + accreditations.
Lloyd Tobin is a Detective Inspector with Hampshire Police with over 25 years policing experience. He is currently in charge of the Force’s Economic Crime Unit which investigates frauds and money laundering matters. Lloyd has been on the Forces cyber – crime working group for the past 3 years and more recently has been leading project around Hampshire Polices future capability towards Digital and Cyber Crime.
Outside of work, Lloyd completed an MSc in Risk Management, the topic of his dissertation being “The Threat to Small and Medium Enterprises posed by Social Network Sites.
A self-professed ‘techie’ and renowned infrastructure expert, Neil Sperring leads the team at Xiria who specialise in a wide range of Managed IT Services with an emphasis upon Cyber Security. Neil is committed to educating business leaders on security threats and best practice having hosted and spoken at various events.
Xiria’s cyber-security expertise is frequently called upon to respond to the ever-growing and emerging threat of cyber-related incidents. Often the incident has already taken place and the impact felt by the client who is left identifying the losses and damage to their business. Using live demonstrations, Neil will demonstrate how cyber-criminals operate in the real world providing an insight into just how vulnerable individuals and systems are to cyber-related attacks.
