Success and Growth at Aldershot Enterprise Centre – Jon Morrissey Ltd
Established by WSX Enterprise, Aldershot Enterprise Centre has made significant impact – supporting the creation of over 40 new businesses and 70 jobs since it started operations in 2015. With support from Hampshire County Council and Enterprise M3 LEP the former officer’s mess, was converted into affordable serviced office space with the latest ICT technology to help start-ups and small businesses find their feet and drive sustainable growth.
The Enterprise Centre is unique in offering a full range of business support services all included in the price; this includes 1:1 business mentoring and advice, business seminars covering key topics for business growth, and links to support services including the EM3 Growth Hub. Furthermore by keeping prices as low as possible with office space starting at £35 a week, all inclusive, the enterprise centre has made it possible for entrepreneurs and start ups to actualise their ideas.
The centre has supported many ex-military officers in their transition into entrepreneurship with often impressive success stories. One such example being Jon Morrissey Limited. Jon Morrissey, former army personnel, who served in the Royal Logistics Corps, turned his passion for driving into a business.
During his time serving Jon was deployed and drove in several countries including Iraq and Afghanistan. Having achieved the rank of Corporal, Morrissey decided to leave the army after 12 years of service.
Shortly after Jon Morrissey Ltd was born at Aldershot Enterprise Centre – the company which Jon Morrissey and his wife Rachel are directors, hails itself as the driver recruitment agency that’s “small enough to care and big enough to cope with your business needs”.
The driver recruitment agency is slowly but surely becoming the ‘go to’ agency for staff procurement. Jon Morrissey Limited goes the extra mile to ensure clients are satisfied, providing them with staffing solutions for temporary, interim and permanent work.
The company which continues to grow has had the pleasure of working with big names that are mainly in the motorsport and entertainment industry – clients include the world renowned McLaren Formula 1 Racing and Berry Marquees, an events company with high calibre clients the likes of Kensington Palace.
Jon Morrissey founder and director of Morrissey Ltd commented on the journey to success:
“The biggest challenge is getting our name out there, figuring out our branding and who we want to target. At the beginning we also struggled with the balance of getting drivers and getting clients. We couldn’t get the work without the drivers but couldn’t keep the drivers without the work. We have finally been able to find the balance between the two.
We have had rapid growth faster than we ever thought and are very grateful for all the support and mentoring that we have received in the first year. Without the Aldershot Enterprise Centre we would never have made it!”
Peter Grant of WSX Enterprise, the organisation in charge of the centre added “The failure rate of businesses at the centre is far below national average and we have seen both ex military and civilian based entrepreneurs launching companies”
The enterprise centre continues to bring economic prosperity to its immediate surrounding area of Aldershot, and on a bigger scale to the Hampshire Economic Area. It seems, there will be plenty more successful organisations coming out of Aldershot Enterprise Centre in the near future.
